Department Visits

School and Extracurricular Groups

Middle School and High School Open House

1 p.m. – 3 p.m Saturday, October 3, 2015

As a part of the Department’s outreach program, we invite high school and middle school students from across the state to visit and experience the exciting world of computer science. During our Open House event, school and extracurricular groups can participate in hands-on demonstrations, visit research labs to find out what computing is all about and talk with current students about why they chose Computer Science @ Carolina. Faculty will also be on hand to talk with students about what you can do with a CS degree and about the companies that employ our graduates.

The demonstrations are popular among students and are meant to encourage all who participate to take higher-level math courses in high school.

If you would like to attend, please register here.

Parking for this event is available on campus.

Women in Computer Science

The Department’s outreach places special emphasis on increasing the number of women in Computer Science. We partner with the Women and Mathematics (WAM) mentoring program which has brought more than 400 eighth-grade girls and their mentors to the Department to watch demos and also to discuss computer science with female faculty members and graduate students.
